Madysn Tusick '20 receives the Beaver County Academic Games League Charles Bowers Distinguished Player Award

On November 21, 2019, Madysn Tusick ’20 was honored with the Beaver County Academic Games League Charles Bowers Distinguished Player Award at Geneva College.  The award goes to one outstanding Beaver County senior, in recognition of the highest level of play in BCAGL.

“This program has taught me so much and has helped me learn the value of hard work,” she said.

The award is named for Charlie Bowers, who graduated from Central Valley in 2016 with more national Academic Games awards than any other Beaver County student.  Madysn’s exceptional performance in local Academic Games competition has led to qualification for Nationals each of her three years at Blackhawk.

She credits Academic Games for enriching her critical thinking skills, and points to the national competition as a highlight of her high school career.

“These trips are so much fun and I’ll cherish these memories for the rest of my life,” Madysn explains.  “Especially Knoxville.  Going to a city that I had never visited before with some of my closest friends was amazing.”

Madysn’s skill in the six Academic Games — Propaganda, Linguishtik, Equations, World Events, Current Events, and Presidents — has allowed her to test her abilities against students from around the United States.  Her achievement was heralded by all of the teachers and coaches in the BCAGL, and the traveling plaque will be displayed at Blackhawk High School until Madysn graduates.

“I feel so honored,” she said.  “I think it’s amazing that I was considered let alone won the award. It makes me feel like all my hard work has paid off over the past four years. I’m so thankful to receive this.”

Consistent with her prior success, Madysn finished with a qualifying score at the BCAGL Propaganda tournament on November 21.

“Hopefully, I’ll get to go to Nationals again this year and make even more memories.”
